A dissolution test is a means of identifying and proving the availability of active drug materials in their delivered form. A dissolution test simulates the availability of active substance and allows the prediction of the time for complete release of the material from the dosage form.
A typical tablet dissolution Instrument includes at least 6 testing stations, 6 stirrers, a heating device to heat the dissolution media to a constant temperature and a speed control usually adjustable within a range of 20 to 200rpm.
Manual
When dissolution is performed manually, every process step before, during, and after the test is executed manually by the user. This is the most technician-dependent way of testing.
Semi
Semi-automated in this case means auto sampling for a dissolution test instrument at pre-programmed times. After all samples have been dropped, the dissolution test proceeds automatically and all samples are simultaneously removed from each connected vessel. The sample is delivered into a connected fraction collector by a peristaltic-, or valve-less piston pump. Sampling information is entered directly at the connected Pharma Test dissolution testing instrument.

Fully automated dissolution testing in this case means sampling, measuring, and result calculation are automated. The user adds the samples when prompted to do so by the system and takes care of filling and cleaning of the vessels.
Disintegration testing Instruments
Disintegration testing determines whether tablets or capsules disintegrate within a defined period of time when placed in a liquid medium. There are three types mainly:
Manual
Manual is defined to enter a maximum disintegration time and to control visually if all samples are disintegrated after the instrument stopped, or you control visually each sample and stop the relevant time using a separate timer.
Semi
Semi automated is defined as a system which still need the operator to watch the tablet disintegration.
Full
The multiple station testing instruments allow independent operation of either basket for the fully automated determination of the exact disintegration time of each tablet in the baskets.
